Milk & Cheese

What causes dairy to go bad? I don't mean some sort of lactose intolerent curds and whey but actual criminals. What then?

What then is the comic Milk & Cheese. As they say they are one "carton of hate" and "a wedge of evil." I cannot disagree.

1994 Los Angeles Rams

1994 is known in the NFL as the year football booted Los Angeles to the curb. In 1994 both the Rams and Raiders left LA, never to return. I hear the NFL is thinking about moving a team to Los Angeles in the near future but that seems crazy in the face of the fact that the Rams and Raiders could not pull fans in a town that has winning teams that play fairly well, along with just about every other type of world class entertainment, right in town. Go to the beach or fight traffic, crazies, and the most inflated prices of any sport? You can see why the Rams and Raiders died on the vine. The Los Angeles Times made and distributed these little sheets at the beginning of the 1994 season. I wonder if they would have made them if they knew the Rams were looking for the exit?

Blair Nevada, State Bank and Trust, 1907

Blair, Nevada was created in 1906 to circumvent real estate speculators from Silver Peak, Nevada, whose inflated prices caused the Pittsburg-Silver Peak Gold Mining Company to create Blair some three miles or so from Silver Peak. Blair was basically dead and gone in 1917 but there are still some cool ruins out there to show that it was once a thriving city.

The Greaser Law of 1855

During the last year we heard a lot about the State of Arizona and how bad they were for passing their current immigration laws. Throughout California there was a collective idea that this sort of law could not pass in California. This is unfortunately not altogether true.

In 1855, the California State Legislature passed what was known as the "Greaser Law of 1855." It allowed for the arrest and incarceration of those persons who were the issue of "Spanish and Indian blood." In the vernacular of today this person would be known primarily as Mexican. This was California State Statute number 175 and it was made when the State of California was but 5 years young.

They also passed some laws regarding regular stuff but this law always intrigued me, especially when all this Arizona bashing broke out. I am sure that this too shall pass in some manner.

Leeteg of Tahiti

Leeteg of Tahiti popularized the black velvet painting in the 1940's and 1950's. This was an advertisement for a book written about him.

Just Another Line in the Field of Time

Another year has begun.

This is a 100 year calendar on a piece of plastic just slightly smaller than a post-it note. It was designed to showcase NCR's new PCMI microform system.
